The BNP – Is it right to give them airtime?

October 22, 2009

Let us not kid ourselves that Nick Griffin and his band of merry men, (and women of course), do not have some weird and racially bigoted ideology underpinning their ethos and existence. So, are the BBC wrong in allowing any right wing numpty airtime tonight? Lovers of freedom of speech will say, it’s Ok give them a voice, because freedom of speech is at the heart of democracy.

Others will say that such is the vile and subtle influence of such extremist groups that they promulgate hatred and violence by the mere fact that they are given a voice. We, here at The Chronicles, feel the BBC might see mileage in placing both Griffin And Anjem with their respective cronies on an island to see how they got on.

Also in a coup which out manoeuvres the past of this group the BNP are now trying to associate themselves with the values of the British armed services. If ever I have heard bollocks, this really does take the biscuit? Absolute desperation. Griffin therefore cannot be taken seriously. Perhaps all right wing organisations should be closed down. That would make our job of dealing with hate crime a little easier. Racial murders might reduce. Racial assaults might also reduce. And perhaps a better dress sense will come in also.

This would just drive the loonies underground and make free speech martyrs(!) of them. Best for all concerned to have them out in the open where their dangerous and ignorant idiocy can more easily be detected and prosecuted.

The disinfectant effect of sunlight will soon show Nick Blofeld up as the Roderick Spode wannabe he truly is. ‘No Platform’ attitudes just give the British Nazi Party an entirely spurious air of mystery and revolutionary glamour.

Censorship and ignorance don’t nagainst idiocy; only knowledge and open debate does.

Your Anjem/Griffin tardfight idea has merit. Broadcast it with Yakkety Sax as the soundtrack for instant televisual gold.

  2. I take it you don’t read your own blog? Read your very next item, matey.

    THAT is a racial murder.

As I’ve said many times, ‘There are none so blind as they who do not want to see’!

  3. While the vast majority of us feel that the views of the BNP are vile and abhorrent, we have to remember that 6% of votrrs put their cross against the party this man represents.

It would be wholly wrong to ban free speech in this way. Where does it stop? This is too dangerous a path to tread.

The vast majority of us are sensible enough to ignore the ravings of these lunatics.

In a democracy, the existence of these extremist parties is a necessary evil to ensure that the Government remains on a sensible path that represents the values of the vast majority.

This ensures that the Government works towards a society where the extremists are irrelevant.

  4. The bungled hanging has more significance than the question.
